Showing up: the online events I'm leaning into this June

Watch this space.
I keep saying it. So here is me actually showing you the space.
If you have followed along, you know I have stopped trying to do this industry solo. Part of building a tribe is turning up to the rooms where your tribe already is. And right now, some of the best rooms are online, which means it does not matter if you are in Sydney, Perth, or out here in the Riverina like me. You just need to register and show up.
Here is what I have signed up for, and why it may suit you to attend too.

AFTRS Digital Futures Summit 2026: Regenerate
The Australian Film Television and Radio School runs this online every year, and the 2026 theme is Regenerate: to restore, to renew, to reimagine. It treats our screen and audio industries as living, interconnected ecosystems, which is exactly the language I have been banging on about.
Three sessions caught me:
Session 1, Worldbuilding: Restoring Collective Storytelling. This one is about treating narrative as a living, participatory system rather than just representation. For anyone building IP across film, TV, gaming and XR, (like us) this is the good stuff.
Session 2, Ancestral to Artificial Intelligence. A clear-eyed, hopeful look at AI as a tool for amplified imagination rather than just disruption, placed in dialogue with older, community-held ways of knowing. We all need this conversation right now.
Session 3, Screen Producers' Next Era of Creative Possibility and Renewal. This is the one I am circling in red. It draws on AFTRS research about how producers move beyond survival to renewal: restructuring enterprises, diversifying revenue, and putting audience and market intelligence at the core of strategy. That is my whole project in one session title.
SPA Screen Business Essentials: Navigating Growth https://www.aftrs.edu.au/short-course/screen-business-essentials-navigating-growth/
Thursday 18 June, 9am to 5pm AEST, online. Run by Screen Producers Australia in conjunction with AFTRS, this is a full-day practical deep dive for early to mid-career producers. Option and co-development deal terms, finance plans, recoupment waterfalls, what buyers are actually doing in the market, and what equity investors expect in return.
The decisions you make at the very start of a project follow it for decades. I would rather understand them properly now than learn the hard way later.
Screenworks Connect
A 45-minute online meet-up for Screenworks members, run bi-monthly. It exists to make working regionally feel a little less isolated and a lot more connected. As a regional producer, that is not a nice-to-have. That is the whole game.
So that is my June. A summit, a full-day course, and a networking catch-up, all from the desk.
Big thank you to AFTRS, SPA and Screenworks for putting these on. Supporting the organisers matters as much as turning up.
What are you registering for this year? And if you are heading to any of these, find me and say hello.
Reach out if you want to talk all things screen in Australia. I am always up for the chat.
